POY! SKIT GUIDELINES:

  • In a small group, participants might simply read their lines, or glance at their lines to get the idea so they can speak in their own words.

  • Have any small children play a brief part. Most scripts have an optional part for children, listed last under Participants.
  • Most scripts have a Narrator who should read the script beforehand to see how to keep moving the story along.
  • It is not necessary to employ costumes and objects, unless the skit recommends such.
  • It is not required to have an audience watch the skit. All present may participate.
  • Scripture and paraphrases, if any, usually appear in bold.

SCRIPT:

John

Master, this man sitting here has been blind from birth. Tell us, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?”

Voice

No one sinned, John. It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents. Let the power of God be displayed!

John

Jesus was always doing the unexpected, and He surprises us disciples by what he does next. He spits on the ground, makes clay and applies it to the blind man’s eyes!

Voice

Go wash in the pool of Siloam.

John

That pool is Jerusalem’s water supply, filled from an underground channel. The man goes, and we wait. Here he comes back, having washed. Oh, look! He can see!

Prompter & Companions

He can see! He can see!

Pharisee

This one can see, but he’snot the same man that was blind. He just looks like him.

Healed one

Yes, I am he who was blind.

Pharisee

So how did you come to see? What happened?

Healed one

A man called Jesus did it; he put clay on my eyes and told me to go wash.

Pharisee

Aha! That Nazarene Jesus did this on the Sabbath, the holy day of rest. He worked! He violated God’s law, so He’s a sinner!

Prompter & Companions

He’s a sinner! A sinner!

John

But how could a sinner do such a miracle?

Pharisee

(To the healed man) You who say you were healed, what do you think about that Jesus? Anyone who labors on the Sabbath is a sinner, isn’t he?

Healed one

He is a prophet.

Pharisee

You there, the parents of this man. Is this your son, who, you say, was born blind? How does he now see?

John

The man’s parents reply that their son was born blind, but how he sees. They also say that they don’t know how. They tell the Pharisees to ask their son, since he is of age.

Pharisee

You’re dodging our question.

John

The parents avoid the question because they fear the Jews.If any man says that Jesus is the Messiah, the Jews throw him out of the synagogue. He’ll have no place to worship.

Pharisee

You there, who were blind, give glory to God. The man you say healed you is a sinner. Admit it!

Healed one

If he is a sinner, I do not know. One thing I do know: once I was blind, now I see.

Pharisee

How did Jesus open your eyes?

Healed one

I already told you! Do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples, too? The way I see it, God does not hear sinners, so if this man were not from God, He could do nothing. He must be from God!

Prompter & Companions

He is from God! He is from God!

John

The Pharisees become angry and throw the man out of the synagogue. Jesus hears about it, and we find the man.

Voice

Now that you can see, do you believe in the Son of Man?

Healed one

The Son of Man? Who is He, Lord? Tell me, so that I may believe in Him.

Voice

You have seen Him; He is the one who is talking with you.

Healed one

Lord, I believe! I believe!

Prompter & Companions

I believe! I believe!

Voice

I came into this world to put men to the test, so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind.

Pharisee

We are not blind too, are we?

Voice

If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, “We see,” your sin remains.

DISCUSS:

What did Jesus mean when He said “I came so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind?”
