Jesus Destroys The Old Dragon

Revelation chapters 1, 11, 12 and 21

POY! SKIT GUIDELINES

  • In a small group, participants might simply read their lines, or glance at their lines to get the idea so they can speak in their own words.
  • Most POY! skits require no practice in advance.
  • Have any small children play a brief part. Most scripts have an optional part for children, listed last under Participants.
  • Most scripts have a Narrator who should read the script beforehand to see how to keep moving the story along.
  • It is not necessary to employ costumes and objects, unless the skit recommends such.
  • It is not required to have an audience watch the skit. All present may participate.
  • Scripture and paraphrases, if any, usually appear in bold.

John
Mary (Girl who can run fast)

SCRIPT

Narrator

While the apostle John was captive in the island of Patmos, Christ took him up in the spirit to see visions of the future.

John

(Read in a loud, slow voice) Yes, sir. It was quite frightening. I can never forget it. His head and hair were white like white wool, like snow, His eyes were like flames of fire.  I fell at His feet like a dead man, and He placed His right hand on me, saying,

“Do not fear; I am the first and the last, I am the living One; I was dead, and now I am alive evermore, and I have the keys of death and Hades.”

Narrator

Wow! Now, John, please tell us what you saw when Jesus and the old devil met head on.

John

Oh! Words cannot express it, but I’ll try. Lightning flashed, thunder roared and earthquakes shook the earth. A huge sign appeared in heaven: a lady clothed with the sun, the moon under her feet. On her head was a crown of twelve stars; and she was with child; she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth…

Then an enormous, red dragon came, his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth.

The dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child.

She gave birth to a son, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron; and her child ascended up to God and to His throne.

Narrator

Let’s watch the dragon chase Jesus’ mother, who in this vision also signified Israel’s nation.

Prompter & Companions

(Prompter is the dragon’s head. Companions are its tail; they form a line behind Prompter, holding onto the person in front of them. The dragon chases Mary.)

Mary

(Run ahead of the dragon, zigzagging among the people. Keep stopping to let the dragon almost catch you, and then run again. Do this until all who want to take part have joined the dragon’s tail.)

John

Michael and his angels waged war with the dragon.  The dragon and his angels fought furiously, but were not strong enough, and God’s army threw them out of heaven.

Narrator

Let’s watch the Archangel Michael battle the dragon with power form Christ.

Michael

(Face the dragon’s head and pretend to swing a make-believe sword at it.)

John

The great dragon fell, the old serpent who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his fallen angels were cast down with him.

Narrator

Fall down, Dragon! Fall down!

John

Then a great voice in heaven thundered,

“Salvation, power, and the reign of Christ have come, for our brothers’ accuser has been cast down, he who accuses them before God day and night.

I saw a new heaven and earth; for the first heaven and earth passed away…  I heard a loud voice from the throne,

“God will dwell among men, and they shall be His people, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death or weeping, or pain, for these have passed away.”

Then the one sitting on the throne said,

“Look, I am making all things new. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I give freely to all who thirst from the spring of the water of life.”

DISCUSS

What things will we enjoy for the first time in God’s new creation?

What bad things that we face now will no longer plague us in heaven?
