The Holy Spirit Births The New Testament Church

Based on Acts 2

POY! SKIT GUIDELINES:

  • In a small group, participants might simply read their lines, or glance at their lines to get the idea so they can speak in their own words.
  • Most POY! skits require no practice in advance.
  • Have any small children play a brief part. Most scripts have an optional part for children, listed last under Participants.
  • Most scripts have a Narrator who should read the script beforehand to see how to keep moving the story along.
  • It is not necessary to employ costumes and objects, unless the skit recommends such.
  • It is not required to have an audience watch the skit. All present may participate.
  • Scripture and paraphrases, if any, usually appear in bold.

PARTICIPANTS:

Thomas (who also serves as Narrator)
Peter
Pilgrim #1 (man)
Pilgrim#2 (woman)

SCRIPT:

Thomas

Wait! Wait! Wait! That’s all we do. Wait and pray.

When is something going to happen, Peter?

Peter

Thomas, have you forgotten so soon? Our Lord Jesus the Messiah told us, just before He ascended to glory, to wait here in Jerusalem for power from above.

Thomas

Look at the crowds out there! Devout Jews from many countries have come to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost.

Oh! Hey! What’s happening? Tongues like fire are dancing over each of us!

Peter

And the wind! It’s deafening!

Thomas

People are coming, running, to see what’s happening!

Just hear that wind howl! Oooo!

Prompter & Companions

(Join hands in a line and skip around the room howling) “Oooo!”

Pilgrim #1

(Exclaim loudly) Wow! That wind is howling so loudly! What does it mean?

Pilgrim #2

Listen! Jesus’ disciples are telling us pilgrims about Him in our language.

We are all hearing about the mighty deeds of God in our own language!

Peter

The prophet Joel foretold this outpouring of the Holy Spirit centuries ago.

God has anointed us to proclaim to all you Jews that Jesus, whom you crucified, has risen from the dead.

Pilgrim #2

(Exclaim loudly, holding your hand to your heart)

Oh! This pierces me to the heart! What shall we do?

Prompter & Companions

What shall we do?

Peter

Repent and be baptized, every one of you. God will forgive you all your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Thomas

Three thousand people trust Jesus this day, and the first New Testament churchis born.

We meet in homes and the number of believers is growing rapidly.

God is doing a new thing! Praise God!

Prompter & Companions

Praise God! Praise God!
