Making Disciples That Obey Jesus’ Commands
Resources Based upon the Teachings of Dr. George Patterson
Introduction to the 7 Basic Commands of Jesus
1. Repent, believe and receive the Holy Spirit
Mark 1:15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”
2. Be baptized
Matthew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,â€
3. Love God and fellow man
John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.â€
4. Break bread in Communion and worship
Matthew 26:26 “While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the
forgiveness of sinsâ€
5. Pray in all things
Matthew 6: 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
6. Give generously (time, talents, treasure)
Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
7. Make disciples
Matthew 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
