Healing As Spiritual Warfare

I have been thinking about two familiar scriptures: “…God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” Acts 10:38 "And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this bond on the Sabbath day?" Luke 13:16 In these two passages, Jesus and Peter both clearly link healing with the deliverance … [Read more...]

Trainees – Churched, Unchurched, and ‘Problem People’

This is a slightly edited repost from Steve Addison's blog, Movements.net - Jeff Sundell said that in Nepal he kept the “new horses” from the “old horses” to protect new believers from the unhelpful habits and traditions of older “churched” believers. Two works emerged at the same time; one separate from existing church structures and one within. The work within church structures grew from 27 – 127 churches in six years. The work outside and separate from existing church … [Read more...]

Obeying Jesus At Home

I was emailing a friend today about how we would often do Communion at the lunch or dinner table, with one piece of bread on the table, and glasses of juice at each place. We’d do it at the beginning of the meal, with the food on the table, as soon as all were seated, to ensure everyone’s attention, as well as brevity. I break the bread, pass it around, then give thanks for the bread and the Body of Christ, pray briefly, and we all eat together. Then I take the cup, give thanks for the cup, … [Read more...]

Spiritual Warfare – Offense or Defense?

Spiritual warfare is a reality of life, not a myth or a theoretical concept. In the words of Dr. Ed Murphy, “everything from Genesis 3 to Revelation 20 that has occurred, is occurring, and will yet occur, occurs in the context of warfare between the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of evil supernaturalism.” Much of what we see in the area of spiritual warfare consists of asking God to protect us, which I call defensive warfare. Most of us are pretty good at playing defense. But I have not … [Read more...]

Asking for the Nations

Workers who want to reach the nations can spend lots of time learning strategies, methodologies, and other tools of the trade. These can be very helpful, but let us not overlook one of the most powerful tools available to us. Long ago, the Lord said, "Ask of Me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession." (Psalm 2:8) Many workers have spent years praying this verse, asking for the nations, and claiming the promise that the Lord makes to His own, who … [Read more...]

People of Yes! – What does That Mean?

People of Yes! are people who say Yes! to a lot of things - Yes! to the Great Commission. Yes! to God-ordained opportunities to coach and train others, even in dangerous areas. Yes! to agreeing in prayer with front line workers, encouraging them and helping them to reach the region God has called them to reach. We say Yes! to the simplicity of the strategies and methods used by Christ and the the Apostles, which still bear fruit today. We say Yes! to people who ask us whether a church … [Read more...]
